1874-Christ Church Football Club was formed they rented a field known as "Dick Cockles" on Pikes Lane and their first headquarters was Christ Church School Heaton, but moved when the Vicar refused permission for meetings if he was not present.

1877-After moving (wandering) from one headquarters to another it was decided on the 28 August that the club should change its name to Bolton Wanderers, they finally settled at the Brittania Hotel on Deane Road where they remained until 1895.

1878-The Lancashire Football Association was formed with 30 members, Bolton Wanderers being one of them.

1879-The Lancashire F.A. Cup was inaugurated.

1883-It was recommended that Bolton should be expelled from the Lancashire F.A. after referee Sam Ormerod was booed from the Pikes Lane pitch and then assaulted at Trinity Street railway station, luckly the F.A. took no action.

1888-The Football League was founded, Bolton being one of the original members and on the 8 September the first league matches were played. Bolton v Derby County - Bolton were winning 3 - 0 after only five minutes Kenny Davenport scoring the first ever league goal in the first two minutes but Derby came back to lead 4 - 3 at halftime and won the game 6 - 3.
All League clubs were ordered by the F.A. to "Prevent disruption and improper demonstrations by supporters"
Pikes Lane was well known to visitors and referees who were greeted with "Criticism and Hooting"

The first ever F.A. Cup Final to be played at Wembley. Also known as "The White Horse Final"
Bolton 2 - West Ham 0. David Jack scored the first goal and John Smith the second.
P.C. George Scorey was the man on the horse and the horse was called Billy.
1922-23 Div 1 League Pos. 13th. Played 42-Won 14-Drawn 12-Lost 16-Goals For 50-Against 58-Points 40.

Bolton won the F.A. Cup again by beating Manchester City 1 - 0. David Jack scoring the only goal.
1925-26 Div 1 League Pos. 8th. Played 42-Won 17-Drawn 10-Lost 15-Goals For 75-Against 76-Points 44.

Bolton won the F.A. Cup for the third time beating Portsmouth 2 - 0. Billy Butler and Harold Blackmore scoring the goals.
1928-29 Div 1 League Pos. 14th. Played 42-Won 14-Drawn 12-Lost 16-Goals For 73-Against 80-Points 40.

Bolton lost 4 - 3 to Blackpool in the F.A.Cup Final at Wembley.
1952-53 Div 1 League Pos. 14th.

Bolton won the F.A. Cup at Wembley beating Manchester United 2 - 0.
1957-58 Div 1 League Pos. 15th.

1990-91 Div.3 League Pos.4th.
Bolton lost 1-0 to Tranmere Rovers in the play-off Final at Wembley.

1991-92 Div.3 League Pos.13th.

Formation of Premier League. Div.3 became Div.2.
1992-93.Bolton were second in Div.2 and so promoted to Div.1.

1993-94 Div 1 League Pos.14th.

1994-95 Div 1 League Pos.3rd.Promoted to Premier League after play-offs.
Bolton 4 - Reading 3 aet. at Wembley. "I WAS THERE ! "

1995-96 Premier League Pos.20th.Relegated to Div.1

1996-97.Champions Div 1.Promoted to Premier League.
Last match at Burnden Park 25 April 1997.Bolton 4 - Charlton Athletic 1
John McGinlay scored the last ever goal.

1997-98.Premier League Pos.18th.Relegated to Div.1.
Bolton & Everton finished on the same number of points but Bolton were relegated on goal difference.
All Bolton fans will remember the Everton game at the Reeboc when the "Man in the Black Suit" refused Bolton a goal after the ball was a couple of feet over the goal line. The final score was 0-0.

1998-99.Div.1 League Pos.6th.
Bolton lost to Watford 2-0 in the Play-off Final at Wembly.

1999-2000.Div.1 League Pos.6th.
Bolton lost to Ipswitch 2-2 & 3-5 in the Play-off Semi Final.
Sam Allardyce appointed Bolton Manager 19 October 1999.

2000-01.Div.1 League Pos.3rd.
Promoted to Premier League after play-off final at The Millennium Stadium Cardiff.
Bolton 3 - Preston North End 0.

2001-02.Premier League.Pos.16th.

2002-03.Premier League Pos.17th.

2003-04.Premier League Pos.8th

2004-05.Premier League Pos.6th. Bolton are in Europe for the first time in their history.They will play in the UEFA Cup competition.

2005-06.Premier League Pos.8th.

2006-07.Premier League Pos.7th.Bolton are in Europe again.UEFA Cup.
Sam Allardyce resigns as Bolton Manager 29 April 2007.Sammy Lee is appointed in his place.
